The Guides and Producers on the Novillos recommend and use the following gear while hunting in South Texas:
Clothing and Camoflauge
For Men, we use RutWear Non-typical Gear in Realtree Max-1 Camoflauge.
For Women, we suggest She Outdoor Apparel in Realtree Max-1 Camoflauge. The owners of She Safari, Pam and Brian Zaitz, are like family to us on the Novillos. Hard working, dedicated, and genuine people like the Zaitz family are the backbone of the hunting industry and we are proud to work with them.
Boots
We preffer Chippewa Snake Boots in the Texas Brush. They are comforatble and durable and fend off mr. no-shoulders!
Rifles
We recommend and believe in McWhorter Custom Rifles. For hunting the South Texas brush, we recommend one of their rifles in a 25 caliber rifle or up.
We currently have a McWhorter Rifle in the following calibers: 257 Weatherby, 6.5 Weatherby, 270 Weatherby, 7mm RemUM, 300 Weatherby, and 300 RemUM. Tim and Allan are great poeple and make a great product that is guaranteed accurate. All of their rifles shoot sub 1/2 inch groups and their workmanship is second to none. Bullets
We use Berger Bullets in all of our rifles. Berger VLD Hunting Bullets are second to none and are in our opinions, the most lethal big game hunting bullet available. Shots on the Novillos range anywhere from 100 yards to 400 yards with the majority being in the 100 to 200 yard range. Bergers leave a devastating wound channel and deliver massive hydrostatic shock, which results in an instantanius kill. A one shot, drop-in-their-tracks, kill means everything in deep South Texas. The thick brush and sandy soil make for very tough tracking!
Rifle Barrels
All McWhorter Custom Rifles come with Hart Barrels, which are are handcrafted one at a time, with a strong commitment to extreme rifle accuracy and quality.
Hearing Protection
We use 3M Peltor Tactical Sport Hearing Protectors in the field and on the range for protecting our hearing.
Scope Mounts
We use Talley Lightweight Alloy Scope Mounts on all of our rifles. The rigid design has no joint between the scope and the rifle, which ensures accuracy every time.
Shooting Sticks
Making long shots down senderos works best with a stable shooting system. We recommend Bogg Pods shooting sticks to achieve that in a hunting blind.
Blinds
At the Novillos we have several Boss Blinds that are perfect for the Texas Brush Country. They are well constructed and comfortable.
Whitetail Nutrition and Attractants
We use the Rack1 Whitetail System to grow the big bucks ont he Novillos. This system is proven and we belive in it!
Trail Camera
We use Cuddeback Trail Cameras to capture images of the big Novillos buck at all times of the year. Believe us, we have tried every camera on the market and Cuddebacks take the best images and are the only brand we've found that can stand up to the heat and conditions of South Texas.
